Elizabeth Banks Confirms Role In Hungry Games!

I?ve still yet to read the popular book, The Hunger Games.� I have no idea why because all I hear about is who is being cast for which part in the film adaptation. Not that it means much, cause I have no idea who any of the characters are.� That being said, the actors whom have so far attached themselves to the film are pretty impressive.

The newest addition (which we kind of expected as it?s been the talk of Hollywood) is Elizabeth Banks.� The ink is still fresh, but the lovely blonde is signed on to play the part of Effie Trinket.� Banks, 37 (best known for The 40-Year-Old Virgin), character is the spunky and charming handler of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) who are chosen to fight to the death in the ritualistic Hunger Games.

Banks confirmed the news on her Twitter, and included a quote from the book: ?May the odds be ever in your favor!?

Pre-production is underway, with filming set to begin shortly. The Hunger Games is set for release on March 23, 2012.

Lindsay Lohan To Give Acting Lessons To The Homeless?

According to reports, rehabbed actress Lindsay Lohan is gearing up to give acting lessons to the homeless!

She was sentenced last Friday to 120 days in jail, along with 480 hours of community service over her probation violation in her jewelry theft case. She has to serve 360 hours of service at the Los Angeles Downtown Women?s Center. The women?s facility looks after homeless women and they are happy to get Lindsay to contribute her acting knowledge.

A spokesperson for the center said that the staff is ?extremely interested in having Lindsay contribute her talents when she kicks off her 360 hours of community service this week?.

The workshop includes women who meet for two hours every week to learn how to express themselves with performing.

Reportedly, Lindsay can?t wait to get started! Perhaps this will be her road to wellness and success. At least we can hope!

Cerebral palsy is defined by a number of neurological conditions, which usually develop in the brain of a baby when it is either very young, newly born or still in the womb. This abnormal development causes damage to the brain, leading to problems with movement, posture and coordination as the child grows up.

What causes it?

Cerebral palsy is caused by damage to a part of the brain called the cerebrum, which controls the body?s muscles. The damage has a negative effect on the muscles and can inhibit their function.

In the past the condition was associated with problems during labour and birth, but now it is generally accepted these cause only around one in ten cases. Most cases occur due to damage to the brain before the child is born. This may occur due to:

• 

  A child with cerebral palsy being examined

  Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) ? this is damage caused to the white matter of the brain, which in turn may be caused by a reduction in the child?s blood supply. An infection, such as rubella, caught by the mother during pregnancy, the mother having low blood pressure, premature birth or the mother using cocaine during pregnancy could all lead to the child?s brain being damaged.

• Abnormal brain development ? this could be caused by gene alterations that help the brain develop, infections such as Herpes or trauma to the unborn baby?s head.
• Intracranial haemorrhage ? meaning bleeding in the brain. This normally occurs when the unborn baby has a stroke (brought on by pre-existing weakenesses in the baby?s blood vessels, the mother?s high blood pressure, infection during pregnancy).
• Damage after birth ? lack of developed resistance to infections such as Meningitis can sometimes lead to brain damage in very early life.

What are the symptoms?

Cerebral palsy is divided into several different categories due to its varied symptoms. These include:

• Spastic cerebral palsy ? this affects around 70% of cases and is defined by some muscles becoming tight, weak and stiff, making control of movement difficult.
• Ataxic cerebral palsy ? here, problems include difficulty balancing, shaky movements of hands or feet, and speech problems.
• Athetoid (dyskinetic) cerebral palsy ? affects 10% of cases, whereby control of muscles is disrupted by spontaneous and unwanted irregular writhing movements. These may be the result of muscles changing very rapidly from being loose and to tight and tense. The muscles used for speech may also be affected, interfering with communication. Control of posture is also disrupted.
• Mixed cerebral palsy ? a combination of two or more of the above.

The cerebrum (the part of the brain that is damaged) also partly controls sight, hearing and communcation ability, so those suffering from cerebral palsy can sometimes also experience:

• Learning difficulties
• Problems speaking or understanding others
• Visual or hearing impairment

It has also been linked with other conditions, which sufferers often experience alongside cerebral palsy, such as Epilepsy, scoliosis and incontinence.

How is it treated?

Unfortunately, there is no cure for cerebral palsy, but there are many treatments and therapies available to manage the condition. The patient and his or her family usually work very closely with health professionals to find the best way to deal with it. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy can also play important roles. Medication is available to relax particularly stiff muscles and surgical procedures have been developed to help combat feeding and drooling problems.

Brad Pitt had one bad experience in the past, which is he was dumped by his ex-fiancee actress Jill Schoelen after he flew to Budapest to see her.

Kung Fu Panda

It's hard not to like Kung Fu Panda even though there have been many smarter animation films recently. It tells the story of an overweight panda Po (voiced by Jack Black) who works for his father in a noodle shop, but secretly yearns to be a kung fu fighter.

Which is why he climbs up thousands of steps to the ancient temple where the Dragon Warrior will be chosen to face off against the dreaded villain Tai Lung who is believed to be planning his escape from an Alcatraz-like prison.

Dustin Hoffman lends his voice to Kung fu guru Master Shifu who lines up five of his best students before the temple master for his selection. Shifu's "Furious Five" comprise Monkey, Tigress, Mantis, Viper and Crane, all highly skilled fighters who could crack open your skull with one deadly move. Yet, as luck would have it, the temple master picks none of them, but roly-poly Po instead to be the Dragon Warrior.

Naturally what ensues are a series of laugh-out-loud moments as this hopeless panda with a total lack of skill is trained in the art of kung fu.

The film is an easy watch, enjoyable even, despite its formulaic 'against-all-odds' theme.

The real fun in Kung Fu Panda comes from the action scenes which are packed with energy and full of crazy little moments that'll have you in splits throughout. The all-star-cast voice talent also includes Jackie Chan, Angelina Jolie and Lucy Liu, but it's Dustin Hoffman doing his best gruff vocals as Master Shifu who is the finest talent on board.

It's also impossible not to lose your heart to Po, the klutzy, couch-potato panda who gets his attitude from Jack Black's amazing voice intonations. Kung Fu Panda is a visually stunning film whose animation is part-computer generated part-hand drawn, it's the kind of photorealistic 3-D animation that makes characters and locations come alive because they're so intricately detailed and fantastically executed.
