Welcome to our brand new column Soap Dish, woohoo! It will come to you every Friday and will focus on the fabulous world of Daytime Soap Operas, love it.
It has been a crazy week in the world of daytime and nothing was crazier than the rumor that All My Children might be getting cancelled. ABC says it isn?t so but that doesn?t necessarily mean the show is safe, especially when it seems at least one show has gotten the axe every year for like the past three years.
I am clearly a huge fan of this television genre or I wouldn?t be writing this particular column. That being said, it is pretty obvious that our beloved soap operas are in jeopardy. So let?s talk about what us fans can do to help the powers that be at the networks realize that our soaps are a valued part of television. Obviously you can write to those in charge of your favorite show, however in a world that is becoming dominated by social media I would suggest starting a Twitter or Facebook campaign or joining one that already exists. I know for a fact there are a ton of them on FB. It might seem silly or like it won?t help but look how much Facebook contributed to what was going on in Egypt. No I am not comparing the two I am simply just saying that you would be surprised at what posting your views and comments on those sites can do.
The most important thing to do is to get our voices out there and be heard. If not then we could very well be facing the demise of the daytime world and I for one do not want to see that happen. The time is now to speak not when a network has already made their decision to get rid of your precious show. If you have any suggestions about how to get the word out that Soap Operas still matter please feel free to share them with us. And make sure you check back next week to see what I am dishing on!
