What has come of Jon Gosselin? Now that he (and many other) reality TV stars have been chewed up and spit out by entertainment consumers, I?m left wondering if it was worth it.
Previously, a person could use reality television as a way to build a ?real? show business career. But now that it is common for reality stars to stay in the genre, the entire concept of a celebrity has been forever altered. But there?s one thing that will always remain the same; the fleeting nature of fame.
Take Jon Gosselin for example. A pudgy IT professional who entered our living rooms via a documentary that was intended to be a one-shot deal. Once it became evident to producers that the everyday life of the young couple could have long-term appeal, Jon & Kate were suddenly thrust into a situation that would end in the ruination of their marriage.
Jon became the epitome of un-cool. He went from the kind of guy who drew praise for his dedication to family, to a chain smoker with a loud Ed Harvey shirt and a receding hairline.
Thanks to the public falling out with his wife, he will always be known as the clown who chose the fast lifestyle over his kids?regardless of whether or not it is true. Sadly, nothing he does now will ever be amplified loudly enough to outshine his missteps as a husband.
Now he has a job installing solar panels, and is apparently facing some real debt issues. I?ve read that he has made attempts at a reality TV comeback, but nothing has materialized.
Meanwhile his ex-wife Kate has managed to rehabilitate her image, though not completely. She is still viewed as a brash, snippy mother of eight, who is said to be exploiting her kids for fame and fortune.
Nonetheless, she seems to have a seat on the fame train, which is apparently rolling right past Jon.
